Dogs, Dogs, Dogs: Sometimes I feel I could reach the sky!

Sad news. Harvey the dog passed away recently, aged 13. Both his owners are very upset by the tragedy.

Harvey will always be loved. Glen said: “Those who have pets will know how close we were. We had been away for a few days in the caravan when it happened.”

This story will bring a smile to your face.

Harvey the Leo! Harvey the Leo! I like it. Actually. Leo is my star sign.

That’s what I’m called on the home-front! Ever since the boss lady discovered I was a Leo. I knew I was generous, energetic and assertive. They’re ok.

And proud. That’s ok too.

I remember when I was young, I got my boss lady into panic mode. I was at the vet. I didn’t know why. The man and woman in their coats gazed at me with a sad look on their faces.

Main: Harvey,  the Leo. Gone but not forgotten.

“I’m getting too old for chasing a ball. I need a rest,” said Harvey. “Look at Ginger he’s nearly asleep. He’s older than me, you know.”

But, silly me, I kept up my jumping, my hiding, thumping my tail, and my usual run-a-muck antics. Then something bizarre - quite strange, it was - took place. I chased my tail around the room for hours!

It seemed like hours, until the boss lady picked me up. I was in her arms only a couple of minutes when she uttered the word … operation. The alarm bells started ringing; I nearly died. Me. Going under the knife …

My stimulation did something wrong to my tummy. Even now, I still do it – only it’s more exciting. But it safer. My personality features just leaned back and laughed.

Ah well, I was only young then.

Here comes the boss lady. She got something to say.

(Laughs)

Harvey is a Leo at heart!

The Leo personality is a natural born leader with a flair for the dramatic. Harvey never does anything by halves. He is ruled by the fiery sun, Leos can’t help but shine; and be larger than life.

And Harvey is a classic example!

(A glorious laugh)

He IS charismatic. He charms women and children alike every-time he sets foot outside the door. So much so the 30 minute walk can often take up over an hour. He stops and takes all the attention dished up to him.

Harvey: “Get me out of this tub!”

He’s proud. You can tell. His tail points to the sky and gives something of a “Royal Wave” when he passes other dogs. He has absolutely no concept of his smallness compared to other dog species. Just as well they don’t eat him for breakfast!

He’s powerful. He know what he wants and how to get it! He also exerts his strength but in one direction only – the café. He loves a Puppa-chino!

He’s dramatic. Well, what can I say? All I can say is he takes after his owners. Just ask any of our friends – they adore him; everything about him. He get abundant love and gives it back tenfold.

Harvey said, “I agree with everything! And I like that phrase “a natural leader.”

(Laughs out loudly)

The Last Word

Earl Jones: A great actor, a great voice

It turns out that 1967 was a big year for James Earl Jones, the American actor, who died on September 9, 2024. Jones was aged 93. In 1967, he played the “extraordinary” coloured boxer Jack Johnson in The Great White Hope.

In 1908, Johnson becomes the first black heavyweight champion of the world. As the reviewer said, the play “is probably the most important new American drama … and certainly the most  impressive in a long time.

A  reviewer writes: “For playing in that on Broadway, he won his first Tony Award.” The humour is high, sometimes giddy, sometimes mocking.” It was an epic occasion. His father taught Jones the actual boxing scenes and the punches were very powerful.

“Jones passed over the line from being a very good actor to being a great one,” remarked the reviewer.”

Jones will always be remembered for playing Darth Vader’s sonorous voice in Star Wars and the film and Broadway production of a The Great White Hope. – FM.
