How to pack for New Zealand weather
Due to New Zealand's natural beauty, the weather can be changeable, and it is always best to be prepared. Below is some useful information on how to pack for the New Zealand weather.
New Zealand really is a stunning and diverse place. From one side of the country to the other, there are many different types of landscapes. However, the seasons are more pronounced, and the weather is changeable.
For example, you could be in the sunny beachside town of Hokitika in the afternoon and by the evening, be relaxing by a warm fire, looking up at the Franz Josef glacier.
Whilst on a GPT tour, dress is informal and relaxed on most occasions and smart casual clothes are acceptable at most restaurants.
Therefore, layers are a great option when packing for your holiday. When it's chilly outside, buildings and our coaches will have great indoor heating, but that also means when you arrive somewhere you'll want more comfortable clothing.
We recommend layering a sweater or jacket over your outfit most days while on tour (even in summer!), especially if you're visiting higher altitude regions. The other great benefit of having an extra sweater on the coach, means you can roll it up into a ball and use it as a pillow or blanket. It's win-win!
Rain is also a natural and amazing part of New Zealand life, with places like Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound coming alive when there is rain about.
We recommend packing a light rainproof jacket or coat in your luggage for days when there's rain or wind about. It also provides an extra layer of warmth if needed.
When booking your holiday, purchase one of our water resistant GPT Tour Jackets. They're a handy item to keep in your day pack and a fantastic memento of your holiday.

Whilst in Rotorua, you may also have the option to relax and unwind in thermal hot pools, so don’t forget to pack your swimwear!
