Take your time in Queenstown

Exclusive to our Best of the South Island tours, enjoy a relaxing three-night stay in Queenstown—giving you the chance to slow down, unwind, and truly experience this stunning natural playground.

After your first night settling into the comfort of your accommodation, your Queenstown journey begins with a scenic drive to the charming gold mining village of Arrowtown. Explore its rich history at the Lakes District Museum, then treat yourself to a wine tasting in New Zealand’s largest wine cave at Gibbston Valley Winery.

Later in the day, freshen up and prepare for a special evening aboard the iconic TSS Earnslaw, a beautifully restored vintage steamship. Cruise across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak Station, where you’ll enjoy a gourmet BBQ dinner at the Colonel’s Homestead—featuring a menu of fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients. After dinner, take a brief farm tour before returning across the lake, accompanied by a cosy sing-along around the piano.

Following your indulgent evening, the next day is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Renowned for its adventure activities, world-class cuisine, award-winning wines, and jaw-dropping scenery, Queenstown offers something for everyone—whether you're seeking adrenaline, relaxation, or something in between.

After a final evening soaking in the flavours of Queenstown, your journey continues as you head to either Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound, where more unforgettable South Island landscapes await.

Optional Activities

With plenty of free time in Queenstown, there’s no shortage of optional activities to explore—your Coach Captain will be more than happy to help you decide what’s right for you.

For those keen to take in Queenstown from above, Skyline Queenstown is a must-do. Ride the gondola to the top and soak in the stunning panoramic views of the town and surrounding landscapes.

If it’s dramatic scenery you’re after, a Helicopter Flight offers unforgettable aerial views. Choose the Grand Circle Flight for views over Coronet Peak’s ski fields and the rugged canyons of the Shotover River, or opt for the Southern Glacier Experience, which includes an exhilarating snow landing on the majestic peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park.

Thrill-seekers will love a jet boat ride through the whitewater rapids of the Shotover River, surrounded by rugged canyon walls—available with either KJet or Shotover Jet.

For a more relaxed experience, venture to the spectacular Skippers Canyon. With just a small group, enjoy peaceful short walks, breathtaking views, and delicious cheese and refreshments in a secluded, tranquil setting.

Travel back 90 million years, uncover the Māori legend of Lake Wakatipu, and observe native wildlife like diving ducks, eels, and trout being fed—all without leaving the lakefront.

For those unsure how to spend the free day, the Best of Queenstown tour is the perfect introduction to everything this action-packed city has to offer. In just half a day, Altitude Tours will take you to some of the region’s must-see spots—including a visit to historic Arrowtown, a glimpse of thrilling bungy jumps, tastings of local wines and cheeses, famous film locations, and breathtaking scenery.
