TranzAlpine Rail Journey

Gaze in awe as you view alpine scenery, river valleys and spectacular gorges on one of the world’s great train journeys. On the east see the vast patchwork of the Canterbury Plains, an area of pastoral perfection and braided rivers. The journey between Springfield and Arthur’s Pass is considered a masterpiece of railway engineering and is the section the TranzAlpine is most famed. During your journey you will travel through 15 short tunnels and four dramatic viaducts, for the most iconic views.

Great Journeys New Zealand manage the Seasonal Timetable and scheduled Maintenance Days for both the Coastal Pacific and TranzAlpine rail journeys.
